On Saturday, May 1, I watched the National Correspondents Dinner on TV. The dinner is notable as each year the president of the United States gives a lighthearted, "humorous" speech, and is followed by a monologue from a notable comedian. This year, Obama was followed by Jay Leno, but I think Obama stole the show. If you haven't seen it yet, you can watch the speech below.
My favorite highlights were:
- Obama's opening Joe Biden joke. "This is a big (bleep)-ing meal."
- "I still happen to know that my approval ratings are very high in the country of my birth."
- And Obama's jab at not wanting to follow Jay Leno.
