Sneak Preview

Tuesday, June 28, 2011
This Sunday my mom's church is having a "seeds of faith" marketplace where church members and clubs will be marketing their handmade goods to help raise money for the church. My mom (and I) will be participating with the church's Knit Pray Crochet group so I've been spending this week knitting and crocheting up a storm. I've also been working on some table decorations such as a flag bunting and a cool sign to draw attention to our table. Here's part of my sign idea:

I'll be posting some of my hand knit and crochet items later in the week. Have you tried selling your hand knit and crocheted wares? Do you have any tips, comments, or suggestions? Let me know in the comments below.

The Things I Do For Love (and free drinks)

Sunday, June 26, 2011
This week my apartment complex celebrated Customer Appreciation week with a Hawaiian theme. On Monday they picked up our trash for us, Tuesday we could enter to win a Hawaiian themed gift basket, Wednesday they had a car wash, Thursday they gave us leis, and on Friday they had a luau. Needless to say, I wish every week was Customer Appreciation week. :)

Anyway, the Boy won the Hawaiian themed gift basket and when he went to pick it up, the office staff asked him to promise to wear the Hawaiian themed items to Friday's luau and he agreed. However, on Friday the Boy was too busy being strangled by a monkey (see previous post) to attend the luau so he asked me to go instead.

...*sigh* the things I do for love (and free frozen adult beverages).

practicing my hula (ironically with a monkey over my shoulder)
evidence that I attended the luau
complete with luau flip flops (FYI: my toes are painted in Essie's Turquoise and Caicos)

What's Making me Laugh: the Boy

Saturday, June 25, 2011

This week, the Boy is making me laugh because on Friday he was choked by a monkey.

...Seriously

For those of you who don't know, the Boy is a photojournalist (aka. camera person) for a local news station. On Friday, the Boy was supposed to be filming some animals at the area zoo that are being temporarily housed there because of the flooding in North Dakota. The Boy was standing on the pathway and leaned a little too close to the monkey cage when he felt a little hand reach through the cage and wrap it's hands around his neck (and those monkey's are stronger than they look). Soon another monkey comes around and starts grabbing his shirt and pulling it towards the cage. Luckily, the Boy was able to wiggle free with only minor scratches.

And that, my friends is the greatest work story ever told...probably.

What I Wore: 6/20/2011

Friday, June 24, 2011

Cardigan: Forever 21
Floral tank: Kohl's
Jeans: Name Brand Clothing
Nail Polish: Essie Ballet Slippers

The Fab Finds Under $50 Outfit Inspiration calender said to "pair floral with stripes," so I paired my striped cardigan with pops of blue with my blue floral tank top for a polished look to wear to work. I also did battle with a severe storm (with 70mph winds, torrential downpours and pea to marble sized hail) in my car while wearing this outfit (hence the slight look of unease on my face). Luckily, me and my car made it home safely and undamaged.

My "seeds of faith"

So, previously I told you all that I've been crafting up a storm for my mom's church knitting group, Knit Pray Crochet. Here's what I've been up to.

No group would be complete without a sign, so I made out group a sign. The K is a knitted I-cord that I stitched together. I beaded the word "pray" using a beading kit I purchased from Wal-mart, red glass beads and religious iconography, and this tutorial on Youtube. And I used this crochet pattern for the letter C.

I also decided that our table would need some added visual interest, so I stitched up a flag bunting similar to the one I made last year.

Then I made this sweet
Knecklace using some white Yarn Bee Enchantress yarn from Hobby Lobby with sequence in it.

I made 2 tote bags loosely based off of the
Elisa Nest Tote pattern.

I embellished a pair of flip-flops with Lion Brand Fun Fur Yarn utilizing the Fuzzy Flip Flops pattern. They kind of remind me of Cruella Deville.

And I knitted up 2
Not-Your-Average-Washcloths using some cotton yarn my mother had.

What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.

Moved

Wednesday, June 1, 2011
Hey everyone! Sorry for the delay in posts. I moved over memorial day weekend from one apartment complex to another just down the road. But, consequently, I'm living without internet until Thursday (at the soonest). Right now I'm writing to you all from a public library computer. So just bare with me, and I'll be back soon.

Thanks!

Oh Sarah O!
