Project Runway Season 9 Episode 1 Re-cap
Friday, July 29, 2011
Did you watch the Season 9 premier of Project Runway or were you put off by the ads (see here and here)? Well, if you didn't watch it, you should have. Here's my re-cap of this week's P.R. events:
So, the evening started with a Project Runway casting special where we got a "sneak peak" at the casting for Project Runway season 9 and got to see former cast member's Seth Aaron, Mondo and some others pose as judges. They whittled the masses down to 20 potential cast members for this seasons cast. Oh! And did I mention that one of the cast member is former Ms. Universe contestant from Trinidad and Tobago (she didn't win) Anya Ayoung-Chee who became notorious in 2008 after her 4 part sex tape got leaked!? Yeah. Really.
After watching the casting special, I decided that my top 3 picks were Fallene, Bert and Becky based off of their initial designs. Both Fallene and Becky are rocking the retro/modern chic design aesthetic that I so enjoy and seem like super awesome/fun ladies, and Bert's simple and sleek designs in high quality fabrics looked like top designer quality from the get go.
At the top of episode 1, the 20 contestants were asked to show their initial mini-collections again for the show's judges (Nina Garcia, Michael Kors, and Heidi Klum) + Tim so that they could whittle down the cast immediately from 20 to 16. The judges kicked off Amanda Perna, David Chum, Gunnar Deatherage, and Sarena Da Conceicao. I agreed that Amanda Perna needed to go, but if it were up to me I would have kicked off Cecilia Motwani (even though I'm afraid she'll beat me up for saying it), Kimberly Goldson, Raefael Cox and Joshua McKinley off at the get go.
For their first big challenge, Tim Gunn woke up all of the contestants at 5am and dragged them into the studio dressed in their P.J.'s and blankets and asked them to design an outfit in 1 day using only what they had on and their blanket. Thank goodness no one slept in the buff!
The judge favorites were Anthony Ryan, Anya, and Burt with Burt taking home the win/immunity. Personally, I agreed with Burt and Anya being in the top spots, and I liked Anthony's top but still thought Anthony's skirt looked too much like a pubic skirt. The judges were not thrilled with Julie, Joshua C's and Rafael's outfit and ultimately sent Raefael home-which I agreed with.
All in all, I thought this was a great start to the season and there seems to be a lot of talented people on board. I hope it lives up to Tim Gunn's statement that this will be one of the best seasons in Project Runway history.

Woman of Note: Rosario Dawson
Tuesday, July 26, 2011
This week Rosario Dawson made headlines after speaking about women's pressure to be thin saying "it's a form of violence". As a woman who has had her own fair share of weight battles and struggles to stay thin to please others, I wholeheartedly agree with Ms. Dawson's statement and just wanted to say "you go girl!"

Rag Time
Monday, July 25, 2011
This week has been all about the dishcloth's. My mom's church is about half-way finished with the Seed's of Faith campaign (which continues through August 28), and the Knit Pray Crochet group has nearly met their goal to raise at least $50 in donations. Lately, people seem to be going ga-ga for dish clothes so I thought I'd try out a few dish cloth pattern's that I found.
Waffle Knit Dishcloth
Double Bump Dishcloth
This dishcloth is very similar to the Waffle Dishcloth without the garter stitch border.
Chinese Waves Dishcloth
Which rag is your favorite?

What's Making Me Laugh: Ricky Reviews Captain America
Saturday, July 23, 2011
Even though I haven't seen the film, Captain America, yet, I already know it's going to be a great film based on this movie review from my local TV news station:
http://youtu.be/Z6hzWQoFi24
*Iron Man is played by The Boy. Hence, my opinion is biased. I have not yet seen Captain America the movie.

What I'm Listening To: PJ Harvey- Let England Shake
So, I guess Amy Winehouse died. I guess she should have gone to rehab. I'm a bit sad that someone with such promise and musical talent has died at the age of 27, but I can't say that I'm surprised that she passed at such a young age as she struggled with her addiction and her health appeared to be fading fast.
Anyway, during my trip to my former college town I also purchased P.J. Harvey's "Let England Shake" CD. So in honor of Amy Winehouse's homeland, give it a listen.

What I Wore: 7/11/2011
Thursday, July 21, 2011Turquoise Scarf: Hot Topic
Coral Shirt: Lands end canvas
Grey pants: NY & Co.
White mens t-shirt (unseen) Target
Please ignore that hideous t-shirt line that goes across my tummy! On July 11 the Fab Find's Under $50 Outfit Inspiration Calender called for some hot color-block action, and this was my attempt. I'm not sure if this was an outfit "win" for me as my shirt was a bit thin and was not doing me any favors. Oh well! You win some, you loose some. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could have improved this outfit? Let me know in the comments below.
The Back-up Plan
Monday, July 18, 2011
Yes, I'm talking about the 2010 J Lo romantic comedy. This weekend I watched The Back-up Plan and it wasn't awful. In fact, the movie has left me coveting a few of J Lo's signature pieces.
1. The Missoni cardigan. I was in love the moment I saw J Lo in the opening scenes. Not with Ms. Lopez herself, but with that cardigan. I must get my hands on it (or something like it), but I won't be spending nearly $800 to get it.
2. Striped silk pajama bottoms. I could spend the rest of my days in those PJ pants. Unfortunately, Victoria's Secret isn't selling them anymore. Perhaps I could make a similar pair.

What I'm Listening To: Florence and the Machine
Saturday, July 16, 2011
For several weeks my Amazon wishlist recommendations has been telling me that I need to purchase Florance and the Machine's album "Lungs." So, last week when I was visiting my former college town I caved and bought the Cd to listen to on my way home. I tried it and I liked it!
If you haven't given Florence and the Machine a listen, check it out and listen to the videos below.

What I Wore: 7/9/11
Monday, July 11, 2011
It's my birthday and I can wear a fun shirred floral sundress if I want to.
I promised you a post-birthday blog post and here it is. I spent my birthday hanging out with The Boy and my family and dined on sushi for lunch and burgers (or in my case, a chicken sandwich) and fries at the local diner for dinner while wearing the outfit above. It's hard to see, but I also wore my new birthday earrings that I got from The Boy (pictured below).
The Boy also says that he got me this sweet Foxy t-shirt, but we're still waiting for it to come in the mail.
And my parents helped me upgrade my phone to a sexy new Droid Incredible 2 smart phone.
Hooray for birthdays!

Birthday List 2011
Saturday, July 9, 2011
Hey everyone! It's almost my birthday! Here are a couple of things that I'm wishing for today.
So far, my birthday plans have already included getting my hair done, eating sushi with The Boy, and promises to have my cell phone upgraded and renters insurance paid off (I feel like an old person, to list having my bills paid as birthday gifts). I'll try to do a post-birthday blog post in the upcoming week.

I'd also like to get my hands on a copy of Tina Fey's Bossypants, The Social Animal by David Brooks, and Stitch'n Bitch Superstar knitting by Debbie Stoller. I'd also like to add a pair of Tom's shoes and some moccasins to my shoe collection and get 500 days of Summer, Toy Story 3, and The British Office series, to name a few.

What I'm Listening To: The National- "Conversation 16"
Last week, I spent the 4th of July weekend with my friends that still live in my former college town. I took a stack of CD's with me to listen to during my 2.5 hour drive and this became my new favorite song. And now that I've seen the music video, I like it even more.
