Yarn Hoppin' Weekend

Monday, October 25, 2010
This weekend, my parents, two of their friends, and I piled into my parent's van and traveled across Kansas for their 4th annual Yarn Shop Hop. Our travels took us to yarn shops Winfield, Wichita, Hutchinson, Newton, El Dorado, Lindsborg (a little Swedish town) , Salina, and Abilene (home of Dwight D. Eisenhower).

We stopped for lunch at a place called Kirby House in Abilene and tried out their world famous coconut and walnut bread.

How was your weekend?

What's making me laugh- Halloween Costumes

Saturday, October 16, 2010
Recently, me and a lady friend made a trip to one of those Halloween costume and decoration shops that only opens up in October in one of those recently closed big box stores. We were checking out costume ideas for her 7 year old and were trying to get a few ideas for ourselves, but were greatly disappointed in the selection of costumes for women. There were Lady Gaga costumes, Snookie (from the Jersey Shore) costumes, and a wide variety of sexy animal/occupation/TV or movie character/period costumes. And in the little girls costume section everything was pink: pink kitty, pink princess, pink witch, bleh! It seems the Halloween costume industry is seriously lacking in not-so-sexy, not pink, kick butt costumes for girls and ladies and it seems the only way around this is to DIY your own.

Allow this video to further illustrate my point (warning: this video contains naughty language):

Anyways, I'm still trying to determine what I want to be for Halloween this year. Got any ideas?

Tucker for Target is not for me

aka. Another Disappointing Shopping Trip

Yesterday, I popped into my local Target store and was beyond thrilled to see that the entire Tucker for Target line was on sale (in the $15 range) as well as a few other pieces that I'd been craving. So I snatched them all up and quickly proceeded to the dressing room.

First, I tried on Tucker's Signature dress in floral in two sizes (M & L). Both sizes hung from my body like a sack and the sleeves could have come down to my wrists. Overall, it was not flattering and not for me.

Next, I tried Tucker's Signature blouse in Cream. This blouse also did bad things to my pear shaped body. Since the blouse is so loose and drapey, it made my smaller top half and waist look larger and gave me an overall boxy look. If only it came with a waist cinching belt.

I found the lacy skirt that EVERY fashion blogger owns (I'm talking about you Blue Collar Catwalk and Keiko Lynn), however when I tried it on it clung to me in all the wrong places (bum, thighs, panty-line, ACK!)

Finally, I tried on a Mossimo floral western shirt in navy and quickly discovered why it was on clearance. The snaps didn't want to snap and the material felt cheap, so it also ended up back on the shelf.

Needless to say, I left the store with nothing.

Have you had any disappointing shopping days lately? Tell me about them in the comments below.

Meet my new shoes

Sunday, October 10, 2010
Last week I set off in search for my perfect go-to shoe since my previous pair of black Airwalk flats (similar to the ones below but it black) were finally on their last legs.

Now, I'm the type of lady that prefers to have one super comfy, super versatile shoe that I can wear ALL THE TIME. A shoe that will take me from work to fun time, from day to night, and can be worn with most of my wardrobe. After browsing a couple of shoe stores and rejecting many shoes, I walked away with these babies:

Meet my new "go-to" shoes. They are Natural Soul by Natralizer Nerva's and they are comfy, cute, versatile and playground and coffee shop friendly (even if the kids on the playground call them grandma shoes) . For more info about the shoes, click on the link above. Also, feel free to tell me what you think about my shoes or tell me about you're "go-to shoes."

Note: I am in no way being compensated or affiliated with Naturalizer brand shoes. I simply want to show off my new shoes to my blogger friends.

Saturday, October 9, 2010
Earlier this week I stopped into a bookstore where I flipped through the latest Cyanide and Happiness book called Ice Cream and Sadness. It was hilarious! Check out the short flick below to see what I mean.
