Virtual Paintout Sketch of Chile

Monday, November 24, 2014
Last summer I told you all about about The Virtual Paintout blog that inspires artists to get together virtually and paint a same location virtually using Google Street View. In June I participated by painting an image of Vladivostok, Russia, but then my life started getting busy and I wasn't able to keep up month to month as I would have liked but I still noted what locations were being painted each month and attempted to scout out some potential painting locations via Google Street View in my spare time.

Anyways, this weekend I decided to paint one of the locations that I scouted out back in May 2014 when the Virtual Paintout was painting scenes from Southern Chile. Something about the painted fence spoke to me and I had to paint it.

What's Making Me Laugh: "All About That Baste" Parody

Sunday, November 23, 2014
Here's a little song that's being discussed around the water cooler at work this week. From the family that has brought you numerous parodies, comes a parody of Meghan Trainor's song "All About That Base" that's right on-time for Thanksgiving. The song is called "All About That Baste"

Happy Thanksgiving!

What I'm Listening To: Tove Lo "Habits (Stay High)"

Saturday, November 22, 2014

Here's yet another song from my husband's mix tape, "Habits (Stay High) by Tove Lo. My husband likes to call Tove Lo his Swedish wife, but this song makes me question whether or not Tove Lo actually does the things she says she does in her song, because if she does my husband and her have nothing in common (except for maybe eating dinner in the bath tub. Please don't judge him). Enjoy the song!

This week I had the pleasure of attending Noel Fielding's Comedy Tour as it passed through Cambridge, which included one of my favorite skits from Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy show, The Adventures of Joey Ramone. Since I can't take you all to see Noel Fielding's Comedy Tour, check out this clip of plasticine Joey Ramone below and if you're in the UK you can check out Noel Fielding's tour dates here.

What I'm Listening To: Ryan Adams "Gimme Something Good"

Saturday, November 8, 2014
Hello readers! Around Halloween time I began listening to Ryan Adams' (not to be confused with Bryan Adams) song "Gimme Something Good" in heavy rotation- mostly because the video features Elvira (a.k.a. Cassandra Peterson). I'm not sure what the song really has to do with Elvira, but I love her so I'm into it.

Anyway, during the Halloween season my husband and I started to watch some of HULU's 13 Days of Elvira and I jokingly turned to my husband and said "Where's Ryan Adams"? Turns out, Ryan Adams did the theme music to Hulu's 13 Days of Elvira, too!

In case you're curious, here's a list of some of the Halloween movies I watched this year:

  • Seedpeople
  • The Gingerdead Man (featuring Gary Busey)
  • Hobgoblins (it's like a poor man's Gremlins)
  • Demonic Toys (Fun fact: The screenplay writer, David Goyer, is also a writer and producer for Batman Begins, Man of Steel, and The Dark Knight.
  • Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death (This movie stars Shannon Tweed a.k.a.longterm companion to Gene Simons and Bill Mahar of Real Time with Bill Mahar. Despite the title, this movie only contains one scene of boobs).
We also watched several 90's TV Halloween specials like Roseanne and Home Improvement.

What Halloween shows did you watch this year? Let me know in the comments below.

Apples and Pumpkins

Thursday, November 6, 2014
In October I decided that I couldn't let Fall 2014 pass me by without engaging in some fun fall festivities so I went to Apple Day at Burwash Manor and to the local pumpkin patch.

As you might expect, Apple Day celebrated all things apple with entry money going towards helping the Sick Children's Trust. There was a vintage ploughing competition, a hedge laying competition as well as apple identification, a make your own apple cider booth, tractor rides, live music, a mini-steam train, and traditional craft booths.

The following day my friend, my husband and I headed over to the local pumpkin patch where we navigated through a corn maize, had fresh donuts and cocoa, and picked out some pumpkins for Halloween. Fun fact: I decided to name my pumpkin Benedict Pumpkinpatch.
