My BonLook Virtual Stylist Consultation

Friday, May 31, 2013
In case you haven't noticed, I wear my glasses A LOT. I've needed to wear glasses since I was 6 years old and I've had a love/hate relationship with my glasses ever since. Currently me and glasses are in a love phase. Even though I have contact lenses, it's so much easier to just roll out of bed, throw on my glasses and be done with it rather than have to poke at my eyes with contacts. Plus, it's been really convenient that the whole "geek chic" look has been in lately.

Anyways, recently I have been on the hunt for some new glasses, so I decided to give the BonLook Virtual Stylist Consultation a try. I just filled out the online questionnaire, submitted a photo of my face and waited a few hours. The consultant selected the Jungle Chic glasses in Walnut, Honey Badger in Chocolate Tortoise, Poppy in Black and the Barracuda sunglasses in Onyx. So now I need your help. You can view my Virtual Stylist Consultation by clicking the link (here) and voting for the pair you think I should get. Or you can suggest an alternative in the comments below.

What I Wore to see The Book of Mormon

Thursday, May 30, 2013
This Memorial Day weekend, The Boy and I decided to visit London to see The Book of Mormon at The Prince of Wales Theater. On the way there we walked past the London Eye, The National Museum and Trafalgar Square. Someday I'm sure we'll come back and spend some more time at those places. The play was, as the sign says, hilarious!

We attended an evening showing and I was surprised to see that many of the other attendees showed up to the theater in jeans, shorts and t-shirts. I thought it was taboo to go casual to the theater especially if it's not a matinee, but after walking several blocks through London in my heels, I wished that I had brought some more casual shoes. Oh well! I looked fabulous! I suffered for fashion (and I have the blisters to prove it).

A Few of My Favorite Clutches

Tuesday, May 28, 2013
I have sort of a love/hate relationship with clutches. On one hand they're stylish, classy and totally on-trend this spring and summer. On the other hand, I don't want to be stuck carrying around my stuff all day even if it is in a stylish bag. I prefer straps please! But despite all of this, it hasn't stopped me from looking. Here are a few of my favorite Etsy clutches:

I love the mint and black combination
Fold over Black and mint green clutch from byMart -$33 USD

This chevron and leather combination is totally classic
Fold over Chevron Clutch by JessieBlume -$36 USD

Finally, this burgundy and black clutch would be perfect for a fancy night out
Burgundy and Black Diagonal Satin Ruffled Wrist Clutch by homemadefun -$18 USD

How would you style these bags?

AKA What I Wore on 5/16/13

Since moving to the UK, I've been trying to get settled in by finding local shops and things that I can frequent throughout the week. I've already found my local grocery store and farmers market, I wish I could find a closer book store and coffee shop in this town (within walking distance anyways), and my recent quest was to try and find a regular beauty salon that I can go to. I've been known to struggle with finding a good hair place in the past because I don't tend to think about finding a hair salon until my hair is un-liveable and by then I'm so antsy to GET MY HAIR CUT NOW that I end up just going to Supercuts and later grumble about the consequences. Alternately, I also tend to over think and over-reasearch beauty salons to the point that I give up on getting my hair cut and resolve to just live with it a little while longer.

Anyways, since I hadn't gotten my hair cut since January I did some careful research and booked myself an appiontment to get my hair trimmed in Bury St. Edmunds.

Hello all! In case you haven't heard, Daft Punk has released a new album called Random Access Memories and it's just as dancified and funky as ever. If you haven't yet listened to their first single, "Get Lucky", listen to it now but be warned- you will have it stuck in your head for days.

What I'm Listening To: PINS- LUVU4LYF

Saturday, May 18, 2013

For those of us in Europe, if you need a break from Eurovision (or if you're just looking for something new to listen to) why not check out PINS "LUVU4LYF". The sound reminds me of the 90's riot girl movements like Hole, L7, and the Breeders. These girl's sound might just kick your ass.

Angie Rocks!

Tuesday, May 14, 2013
Today several articles were released detailing Angelina Jolie's recent decision to have a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery after she discovered that she had a high risk of contracting breast and ovarian cancer herself. Having lost her own mother to ovarian cancer in 2007 and having 6 kids of her own, she said that she didn't want her children to worry if she would also contract ovarian cancer (read here, here, and here).

I think that Angelina made a very brave decision and I'm proud of her for discussing her mastectomy openly in the hopes that it will encourage other's to assess their risk and help themselves minimize the risk for contracting cancer. So in honor of Angelina's article I thought I'd share some of my favorite Angelina fashion moments with you.

Going Boating

Monday, May 13, 2013

This weekend The Boy and I are planning to go canoeing near the English coast. I'm a little scared because I've never been canoeing before, but hopefully the weather is good and it is fun. Our Plan B option is to just stay in and watch Eurovision all weekend long. Anyways, this week I've been trying to figure out what to wear on this canoe trip. I'm a little worried that my actually outfit will be slightly less glamorous  and more like this sketch: http://youtu.be/R3SFqV0hMyo

Naturally Epic Outfit

Thursday, May 9, 2013
My denim shirt is back. This time I decided to pair it off with a JCrew outlet skirt that I've had for a little while but have rarely worn. I've been on then fence on whether I should keep the skirt or put it in my 'give-away' bin. What do you think? Is this skirt a keeper?

Shirt: Target
Skirt: JCrew outlet (similar)
Pin: gift
Shoes: Old Navy (similar here and here)

I decided to dress my shirt up with this rose pin that I inherited from my grandma.

While I've got your attention, movie season is underway with the release of Iron Man 3 (I still need to go see it) and the upcoming release of The Great Gatsby, but I also love to watch animated films. This month the creators of Ice Age are releaseing Epic staring Beyonce, Colin Ferrell, Josh Hutcherson, and Amanda Seyfried. Check out their facebook page here.

Trending: Crop Tops (Poll)

Monday, May 6, 2013
Update: The original poll did not keep a tally, so I have added a new poll in the upper left corner of my blog until June 2.

If you've been keeping up with the latest trends, you may have noticed that cropped, midriff-baring tops are making a comeback this summer (if you haven't yet noticed, just check out the ASOS website). There are short-sleeved ones, long-sleeved ones, bustier ones, ones with cut-outs, you name it. Now my question is, who is really going to wear these crop tops? Is there an age limit, or a weight limit to wearing crop tops? Do you need to be from a certain climate? Is it all about the styling? I want to know. So check out my mini poll and let me know in the comments below if you will be rocking a crop top this spring/summer, or not.

This week on Instagram: April 27- May 5

Sunday, May 5, 2013
Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone! May your day be filled with tacos, buritos, guacamole and/or margaritas. This week I took on the challenge of building my first IKEA item, the Besta Burs TV stand, all by myself. I tackled that beast and after 3 days it was complete.

Later this week I decided to visit the town of Bury St. Edmunds to do some shopping and hit up the local TK Maxx (that's British TJ Maxx- I have no idea why the initials are different here).

While I was in Bury I stumbled across an Arts & Crafts sale. I can never pass up a good arts and craft sale and I made off with some art prints and a jar of  locally made all-purpose body balm made from honey from a local bee hive. It's my new favorite thing and has totally been saving my dry hands.

The best part of Cinco de Mayo is that The Boy has returned back to me after being away on a month-long work trip to Oregon where he got to visit Crater Lake, Shasta Cavern and fly around in an F-15.  Lucky!inin

What I'm Listening To: The Great Gatsby Soundtrack

Saturday, May 4, 2013
The Great Gatsby is the most anticipated movie of the season with it's big stars, fancy production and 1920's fashion. And since it's release is nearly upon us, I'm getting pumped up by listening to the Great Gatsby Soundtrack here.

Previously on Project Runway: Season 11, Episode 14

A.k.a. The finale

Previously on Project Runway the final three designers (Michelle, Patricia, and Stanley) got to return to the workroom with their cast-away helpers (Michelle w/ Amanda, Patricia w/ Layana, Stanley w/ Richard) in order to polish up their collections for fashion week. In the previous episode the judges asked Michelle to change her hair and make up and edit her accessories, they asked Patricia to make her looks more cohesive, and they asked Stanley to inject some youth and sex up his collection.

Michelle seemed to have her work cut out for her in the workroom since most of the judges criticisms were with hair, make-up and accessories. Patricia and Stanley, however, had a ton of work to do as both of them were still constructing whole new outfits in the workroom. When it came time for the runway, Patricia seemed to have finished her outfits, but it didn't look like Stanley was going to make it. He was literally sewing on garments and sewing his models into their garments just moments before his show. Let's take a look at the designs:

Stanley took most of the judges criticisms (except for Nina's comment that he should break up the matchy-matchy skirt/crop-top set) to heart and changed up the styling and re-made entire garments. His collection was very clean and polished as you would expect from Stanley, but his collection didn't stand out or wow the judges. Although Nina Garcia was ready to take home the beaded crop-top, Stanley was awarded 3rd place.

Patricia put on a show that really packed a punch. I was really pleased to see so much of her artistry on the runway in a more refined way. It was definitely different and innovative and on the verge of greatness, but the collection wasn't quite as cohesive as the judges would have liked. I never could have imagined that Patricia would get this far, and I think if she keeps steering in the same direction she may be one-to-watch at future fashion weeks, but this time Patricia came in 2nd.

Michelle had this fashion week show in the bag. She was one of the few designers to have a clear point of view throughout the show and she actually showed up to fashion week with most of her pieces complete. Her collection was true to her personality and she made sure to take the judges criticisms with a grain of salt (thank goodness, or we never would have seen that bleeding heart sweater on the runway). I'm happy to say that Michelle was this years winner of project runway.

What did you think of the final three designers? Do you think the judges made the right decision? Will you be tuning in to this weeks "After the Runway" episode? Let me know in the comments below. Want to see more images from the finale? Visit www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway
