Halloween Costumes 2013

Wednesday, October 29, 2014
Scar the Pumpkin
This year I decided to wear two costumes for Halloween, because I can. For my first costume I was Miss Pussy Katz from the movie Flakes (2007). The movie is about an aspiring musician that works at a cereal bar. It's got Christopher Lloyd and Zooey Deschanel in it, and although the film isn't great, Zooey's character did leave an impression.

Hat: made by me
necklace: thrifted
belt: trifted
shirt: Old Navy
skirt: JCrew Factory
shoes: Payless

For my second costume, my husband and I wore kigurumi's. My husband was a tabby cat and I dressed up as a red panda.

What I'm Listening To: Hozier- "Take Me To Church"

Saturday, October 25, 2014
You might not believe me, but I've been listening to Hozier WAY before he appeared on the SNL Bill Hader episode. Actually, Hozier's "Take Me To Church" is another song that appeared on the mix tape that my husband made me. Check out the music video for the song below.

Rude, Crude, and Tattooed

Friday, October 24, 2014
On September 27th I attended the 10th Annual London International Tattoo Convention at the Tobacco Docks in Shadewell, London. Not only did I attend because I appreciate the art form, I also attended to be tattooed by one of my favorite tattoo artists, Kid-Kros, of Split, Croatia.

The line of people without advanced tickets waiting to enter the convention was huge.

A Tobacco Dock boat.

Besides getting tattooed, there were tons of things to see and do at the convention. There were tattoo artists from TV such as Ami James and Megan Massacre from Miami Ink and NY Ink, pin up models like Sabina Kelley from Best Ink, fire eaters, strippers, acrobats, artwork and merchandise for sale, and rock bands. However, since I was getting a rather large tattoo, I didn't get to see a whole lot of the other things going on at the convention as I was in the tattoo booth most of the time.

There was a taco truck, BBQ truck, coffee truck and bar with pub food at the event. I stuck with tacos because a good taco in England is hard to find.
Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos of Kid-Kros or his lovely wife or the tattoo artist from Barcelona and the artist's friend from Berlin who shared the booth with us. Although getting tattooed was painful, I enjoyed listening to the tattoo artists' talk about where they were from, meeting other artists and attendees, and getting compliments on my newest tat.

After the convention I met up with my London BFF to show off my freshly wrapped arm and eat some American style burgers, milkshakes, and chili cheese fries. Goodtimes!

Want to see more images from the convention? Check out this article from The Guardian with pictures from the convention. The lady getting most of her leg tattooed was in a booth an aisle away from me. As I was getting my tattoo I just reminded myself that my arm probably hurts less than her leg.

A Royal Affair

Wednesday, October 22, 2014
Somehow the Kansas City Royals baseball team have managed to make it to the World Series (a feat that hasn't happened since 1985) where they'll be playing the San Francisco Giants this week. While I'm not a huge watcher of baseball (or sports in general), this is such a rare event and I am bummed that I can't celebrate by watching the games with my friends or by chillin' at Paul Rudd's mom's house, but I can honor the occasion with a swell new t-shirt. Here are some of my favorite KC Royal's t-shirts.

KC Heart
Royals by Bradley Brooks

Be Royal by Megan Watson

Will you be watching the World Series this week? Which team are you cheering for (if you don't say the Royals, I'll shake my fist at you...just kidding)? Which t-shirt is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below.

My Fall 2014 Capsule Wardrobe

Monday, October 13, 2014
Fall is here, which means it's time for me to show you my Fall 2014 Capsule Wardrobe.

Before I selected my pieces I looked through my current closet to see what fall colors already reside in my wardrobe. Then I looked at what colors were trending for Fall 2014 and I created my Fall color palette.

These are the colors I'll be focusing on:

Neutrals

Near Neutrals

Statement

Since I have a LOT of clothes in my tiny little closet and I haven't successfully used a capsule wardrobe before, I decided not to limit my clothing selection to any particular number (I have 56 items in this capsule overall). My capsule includes pants, skirts, dresses, shoes, tops and jackets, but I realize that I may have to swap out some of my jackets for heavier coats as the temperatures get colder. Here are my items:

Pants, Skirts, Dresses and Shoes

Tops, Cardigans and Jackets

Have you created a capsule wardrobe or have you considered it? Let me know in the comments below.

What's Making Me Laugh: Puss in Boots (the movie)

Sunday, October 12, 2014

This weekend I decided to re-watch an underrated cartoon favorite, Puss in Boots. This movie tells the background story of Shrek's lovable sword fighting friend, Puss, with a great cast of characters such as Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zack Galifinakis, Billy Bob Thornton, Amy Sedaris and Guillermo del Toro. The story is great, there's plenty of references for adults, and it has a strong female lead. I love it!

What I'm Listening To- Hospitality "I Miss Your Bones"

This week I've been rocking out to American indie pop rock band, Hospitality, from my husband's homemade mix tape. I suppose I'm a fan because:

"you can't piss on Hospitality, I won't allow it"- obligatory Troll 2 quote.

Anyways, this song is called "I Miss Your Bones" and I think it's the perfect song to listen to when the husband is away for work or out with friends.

70's wrap dress SadieMaybelline on Etsy

Have you ever seen a piece of clothing online and just knew it was going to be perfect for you? Well, that's pretty much what happened with this dress. I knew the style would be flattering for my frame, I loved the colors, and the measurements were a perfect match for me. I can't wait to wear this out on a date with my husband.

What I'm Listening To: The Broods "Never Gonna Change"

Saturday, October 4, 2014
Here's another song that my husband put on my latest mixed tape. The band is Swedish brother/sister duo, The Broods, and the song is called "Never Gonna Change." My husband told me that this song sounded like the kind of song I would make if I started my own indie band.

Warning: This video is unsuitable for prudes.

I'm fairly certain that The Broods didn't act in their own music video, but then again I've never been to Sweden.

Transitioning Your Wardrobe with Julep Nail Polish

Thursday, October 2, 2014
Happy October everyone! I don't know if you're experiencing this yet, but here in the UK the temperatures are falling, the leaves are changing, Pumpkin Spice lattes are being served, and it's time to start transitioning our summer outfits to fall.

Fall is by far my favorite season for fashion because the colors become darker, the prints become bolder, and I get to start layering my most favorite pieces.

I've teamed up with Julep, which has released a new Autumn range of nail polishes, to create an outfit  inspired by the new fall shades to help you transition from summer to fall.

I imagine pairing this outfit with a casual cardigan to wear to school/work and then layering on some statement necklaces and a cute camel colored wrap coat for the evening.

You can check out Julep's fall transition colors below. Which colors are your favorite?

Summer colors: Tamara, Princess Grace, Maddy, Bette, Margaret, Kam, Florence
Fall colors: Claudette (available in the Girly Perfect set), Brielle, Clara, Beverly, Misti, Roc Solid, Alaina.
