Spring Weather

Monday, May 23, 2011
I'm taking a little time out from my usual fun posts to share some serious news. Spring storms have been beating down on my home state (and neighboring state). First, on May 21st when an EF 3 tornado destroyed 80% of Reading, Kansas, a small town near to where lived for 2 years when I was studying for my masters degree, killing 1. Then, on May 22 an EF 4 destroyed 30% of Joplin, Missouri (including a hospital) killing 116 people (reported so far). I just wanted to remind everyone to keep those that were affected in your thoughts and prayers (if you're a pray-er).

If you're interested in reading more about it check out these news stories:

What I Wore: 5/20/2011

navy grandpa cardigan, pants: Target
blue floral tank and polka dot rain boots: Kohl's
scarf: TJ Maxx

Friday was another rainy day, so I thought I'd cheer it up with some floral, a pops of color, and fun polka dots. You could even say that I combined the Fab Finds Under $50 recommendations for Friday (be bold with color) and Saturday (mixing patterns with patterned shoes) all in one.

What I'm Listening To: Eurovision 2011

Saturday, May 21, 2011
I finally got to see Euro-vision 2011 (a week after the rest of the world got to see it). I thought this year's broadcast wasn't as good as last years, although I still enjoyed listening to the British commentator (he's so snarky) and I enjoyed seeing scenes from Germany.

Azerbaijan was the winner this year. I thought they were pretty good, but I wouldn't have picked them at my #1 favorite. Here are my picks:

1) Moldova- I thought their song was pretty rockin' and I defiantly liked their hats. :P

2) Ireland- This one hit me like a slap in the face. I didn't know how I felt about this one at first, but in the end, I decided that was a good thing.

3) Serbia- I'm a sucker for an all girl retro band.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Friday, May 20, 2011
This week I got to cross another new years resolution off my list because I atteLinknded my very first "real" baseball game. I cheered for the home team (mainly because the opposing team was my undergraduate alma mater's local rival) and I believe we won...although I can't be too sure since I left at the bottom of the 8th because I was getting too cold (*note* WSU won 7-6). Yes, I had peanut's and crackerjacks and The Boy ate my 2 complementary hotdogs. We even got to sing take me out to the ball game! Yay for new experiences!

Sorry for the delay in posts. This weekend one of my best lady friends came down to visit and while I showed her the town, she showed me this song.

warning: this video contains naughty language.

BTW: this song is getting me totally psyched up to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie next weekend.

Barbie meets Jessica Rabbit

Wednesday, May 11, 2011
Today Sarah Barbie is showing off her sexy new red strapless gown and her matching red cape. Both items were crocheted by me, Sarah O, using Red Heart size 10 crochet cotton in Victory Red and a teeny tiny #7 crochet hook.

Red Shell Stitch Evening Gown

For this dress I used the "barbie basics free crochet" pattern of the same name found here. Once I got the rhythm of the pattern down, it was pretty simple to make, albeit very tedious.

Fashion Doll Christmas Cape

The pattern may call this a Christmas cape, but I think this cape is too pretty to hide away for only one time a year. I used a free pattern from JP fun (found here) to make this quick crocheted cape. Link

Both Barbie items were crocheted for my former co-worker to give to her grandchildren.

What's Making Me Laugh: Tina Fey on SNL

Sunday, May 8, 2011
Sorry for my lack of posts lately. I'm still obsessing over the Eurovision Song Contest and watching all of the past entries music videos. The 2011 finals are supposed to air on May 14th and I really wish that we could watch it here in the states. So if you're in Europe, be sure to check it out for me ( you can see the website here).

Anyway, did anyone catch Tina Fey on SNL last night? I did. Here's a few of my favorite clips from last night.

The return of Tina Fey as Sarah Palin

This one has 2 things I love: Tina Fey and The Little Mermaid

What's Making Me Laugh: The White House Correspondents' Dinner

Sunday, May 1, 2011
This week has been so full of funny things that I'm going to post another installment of What's Making Me Laugh. This time I'm sharing a clip from the 2011 White House Correspondents' Dinner.

I think President Obama is hilarious ( I even have a post about last year's Correspondents' Dinner here)! This year, the best jabs were definitely at The Donald regarding the release of the President's long form birth certificate.Link

What's Making Me Laugh: Sexaphone Guy

Warning: If you watch the following video, you are going to have this loop stuck in your head for days!

This week I've been all giggles about the Sexaphone Guy. I really like the way he "grinds" on the sax ;)

When I first saw the Saxaphone Guy video, I thought the footage must be from the early 80s because of the costumes and hair. So I was really surprised to find out that this clip actually comes from a 2010 episode of Europe's Eurovision Song Contest and the band is from Moldova.

Now it kinda makes me wonder about people from Moldova :P
