The 4-7-8 Rule

My new favorite health trend is the 4-7-8 Rule, a breathing technique that can help you reduce stress and anxiety, reduce cravings, lower your heart rate, and help you fall asleep quicker.

The technique is simple:

  • Breathe in for 4 seconds
  • Hold your breathe for 7 seconds
  • Breathe out for 8 seconds
I've already used this technique when on the treadmill to lower my heart rate and I've caught myself using this technique at work after some particularly stressful moments.
