aka. The final four

Previously on Project Runway, the designers got to go home for 5 weeks in order to design their collections for New York City's Fashion Week. While the designers were away, they each received home visits from Project Runway's Tim Gunn where we saw that only one designer (Melissa) had a place to call home. When the designers returned to New York, the designers were asked to send 3 of their best looks down the runway in order for the judges to determine who would present at fashion week. Apparently most of the designers didn't get that memo. Let's take a look at their designs.

Christopher was one of the designer's who missed the memo to send out his 3 best pieces as he decided to send down 3 short outfits (2 shorts and a mini-skirt). I liked that Christopher used his mother's x-ray as a print in an unexpected way, but I expected Christopher's collection to be more soft and romantic than edgy and dark. I thought this would have been a great opportunity for Christopher to bring back his frayed ruffle technique again that he did so well in the beginning and was disappointed with his collection.

Dmitry is the clear winner of tailoring. Dmitry appears to have a lot of great ideas like the cut-out dress, fringed jacket and tailored trousers. But I worry about how many ladies are really into shear shirts and the judges were concerned about Dmitry's styling making his model's appear too old. I think Dmitry sent out the best designs overall and he's my pick for the win.

Fabio got kudos from me and the designers for being the only designer to send some color down the runway. Fabio's looks took a more avaunt-guard approach rather than ready-to wear, with crafty touches such as his plastic canvas necklaces and bags, and pastel color created with water color. The judges biggest criticism was with Fabio's styling as they weren't a huge fan of the wigs. I'm worried that Fabio's looks may be too kookie and unwearable for the Project Runway audience.

I was not a fan of the weird boobs on that vest
When I first saw this look, I thought it looked like a sheet with a nice collar, but the judges were into it.

Melissa

Melissa seemed to revert back to her all black, edgy/goth aesthetic and sent out an all black and white collection. Has she forgotten that the judges prefer her looks when she uses color!? *shakes fist*  She also sent her models out with awful cheap looking wigs. The clothes she sent down were rather boring. She too missed the memo about sending your 3 best pieces down the runway.

Hello peak-a-boo under bra!
I thought the collar and cuffs were way too exaggerated! I just wanted to take my scissors and cut them down.

In the end, the judges decided to send all four designers to New York City Fashion week. However, if it were up to me, it would have been a toss up on whether to kick off Melissa or Christopher. I'm really interested to see what all of their collections will look like. Are you happy with the judges decision to keep all of the designers? Who do you think had the best/worst mini-collections? Who do you think the winner will be? Let me know in the comments below.
